The Arc'teryx Norvan Short brings technical mountain running engineering to everyday training. Built from an F0 dual-layer woven construction, the fabric delivers simultaneous wind resistance, DWR water repellency, and four-directional stretch -- all in a barely-there 9-inch cut that moves with you rather than against you. The waistband is fully elasticated inside and out with a fleece-lined back panel that wicks moisture without clinging. A triangular hip gusset and precision athletic patterning eliminate restriction through the full range of stride, while rear zip pockets secure a phone or gel without bounce. The clean drawcord adjuster at the waist lets you dial fit in seconds. Sheer-but-not-see-through fabric keeps you covered at every angle.

Arc'teryx Norvan 9-inch trail shorts are a perfect length for trail running - long enough for coverage, not so long they restrict stride. The liner is comfortable.
These are my go-to trail running shorts now. The split hem gives great stride freedom and the ripstop fabric is lightweight but doesn't tear on brush.
I compared these to the retail Norvan and they are very close in construction. The storage pockets are well-positioned and secure enough for a gel or phone.
Delivery was fast - 9 days. Shorts came packaged well. The 9-inch inseam is longer than typical running shorts but great for trail use where you're pushing through vegetation.
Q: Why 9-inch inseam for trail running versus the typical 5-7 inch?
A: The longer length provides more coverage and protection from trail brush and sun exposure during technical trail runs.
Q: Are the pockets accessible while running?
A: Yes - the hand pockets and back zip pocket are all positioned for easy one-handed access while moving.
Q: Is the liner supportive enough for longer trail runs without additional underwear?
A: The liner provides basic support for shorter runs. For ultras or half-marathons, some runners prefer adding compression shorts underneath.
